First on FOX: Pennsylvania treasurer Stacy Garrity announced the Republican campaign for the governor on Monday, tees what could be a competitive 2026 race against incumbent Democratic government Josh Shapiro.
The Republican candidate spoke only with Fox News Digital ahead of the launch of the campaign, saying he is challenging Shapiro in next year’s gubernatorial election because he “failed the nation” on key issues such as energy production, education and job creation. She said the state’s vast oil and gas resources are key to its economy.
“I have a rather different vision for the Commonwealth,” Garrity, 61, said in a phone interview before announcing the campaign for the governor. “We really need to use what we have at our feet.
Garity said her position on energy was right along with President Donald Trump and Senator Dave McCormick.

Garity said Pennsylvania voters had a loud, clear message last year.
Pennsylvanians say they travel to all 67 federal counties each year, and the treasurer wants “more money in our pockets” and “the government’s hands in the government’s pockets.”
Keystone residents also want school choices, a safe community and “boys who compete with girls in sports,” Garity said.
The Republican hopeful argued that “he might be able to play a political game in education, but our children certainly can’t.”

Shapiro recently told reporters that the federation doesn’t require “radical politicians” who want to legislate student participation in sports in connection with a recent bill in the Pennsylvania Legislature that prevents transgender athletes from playing in women’s sports.
“He’s with radical liberals who are pushing for the political agenda,” Garity said.
Garity also criticized Shapiro for her school choice and saying “flip-floping and “failed”[ing] State: “In the provision of state budgets.
Shapiro, who presides over a politically divided state legislature, missed the federal deadline to pass this year’s budget.

The Democratic governor caught the public’s attention last year when former President Joe Biden was shortlisted as a potential running buddy to former Vice President Kamala Harris after suspending his reelection campaign.
“I’m not as sophisticated as Josh Shapiro,” Garity admitted to Fox News Digital. “I’m definitely not as politician as Josh Shapiro. He’s a prolific fundraiser. This is going to be a tough race.”
But despite the potential benefits of Shapiro as an incumbent governor, Garity said, “I’m a really tough worker.”
Garity touted that in the first race for state treasurer, she was able to disrupt the popular incumbent.
“I’ve been a loser in the Army, business and politics for the rest of my life, so that’s why I was able to succeed when the odds pile up against me,” Garity said.

“State accounting is my first role in public office, but not my first role in public service,” the Republican hopeful said. “I spent 30 years in the Army reserves. I’ve been deployed three times in the Middle East.”
Garity also worked in the private sector of the global Tungsten & Powders, where she worked to become one of the two female vice presidents.
Now, as a state treasurer, Garity said, “It’s a real blessing to wake up every day and serve hardworking Pennsylvanians.”
Garity has been teasing her governor’s run for months. Rep. Dan Maeser, R-Pa, of the Trump Congress. was also considered a potential Republican candidate.
