More food allergy precautions in California after influencer Dominique Brown recently died Thursday after suffering an allergic reaction to holiday food served at an event hosted by fandom retailer Box Lunch. A Change.org petition has been started asking for this. .
She was 34 years old.
“Our beloved Dominique “Domo” Brown tragically lost his life due to a severe allergic reaction at an event and eatery in Los Angeles, despite informing staff that he had a life-threatening allergy. Instead, she was served food containing the allergen. The facility lacked important life-saving tools, such as an epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen), and staff trained to respond effectively. ” the petition states.
The petition asks California lawmakers to:
Make EpiPens available in all establishments that serve food, including restaurants and event venues Train staff to recognize and treat allergic reactions Ensure all ingredients in dishes are disclosed Real-time ingredient transparency, including clear communication protocols between chefs, servers, and customers, especially when recipes or cooking methods change.
So far, the petition has gathered 16,227 signatures.
A representative said Box Lunch is currently arranging grief counseling for the team and members of the Box Lunch Collective, the company’s ambassador program. Steps have also been taken to ensure event venues are aware of all known allergens and an investigation into the issue has begun.
The representative also noted that 911 was immediately called and that the DJ made two announcements during the event asking if anyone had an EpiPen.
“We are shocked that Dominic Brown, a beloved member of the Box Lunch Collective, passed away after suffering a medical emergency at an event hosted by Box Lunch in Los Angeles on Thursday. Our hearts go out to their families and friends and we will do everything we can to support them, the members of BoxLunch Collective, and our team during this difficult time,” the company told KTLA in a statement. .
