Already warm temperatures in much of Southern California are expected to explode to record highs later in the week.
Warming trends occur throughout the week as highs rise close to 100 degrees or more across the desert and warmest valleys on Friday.
“It is likely that between 30% and 40% of Friday’s highs will approach or break calendar daytime records in some valleys and desert regions,” the NWS said in its forecast discussion on Tuesday.
Areas most likely to break record highs are Paso Robulls, Ojai, Palmdale and Lancaster.

KTLA’s seven-day outlook for the Inland Empire shows afternoon highs in the 90s by Thursday, reaching 100 degrees on Friday.
At least at the beginning of the week, temperatures near the coast remain near normal.
More inland air quality has already been a hit as Rancho Cucamonga is expected to fall into the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” category.
A significant drop in temperatures arrives on Sunday and is expected to continue until Monday.
