Stanley is recalling 2.6 million switchback and trigger-action stainless steel travel mugs due to burn hazards, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
According to the CPSC, the mug’s lid is defective and the threads can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, which could cause the lid to pop open and create a burn hazard.
According to the CPSC, Stanley has received 91 reports around the world, including 16 in the U.S. where the lids of recalled travel mugs came off during use. The lid failure caused 38 burn injuries around the world, including two in the United States. The CPSC announced that 11 consumers required medical attention.
The recalled double-walled mugs were sold in a variety of colors, including white, black, and green, and in 12-ounce, 16-ounce, and 20-ounce sizes. Size with polypropylene lid. The Stanley logo is on the front and bottom of the mug. A complete list of recalled product numbers is below.
These mugs were sold across the United States from June 2016 to December 2024 at various retailers including Amazon.com, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Target.
Anyone who believes they may have a recalled mug should look on the bottom of the mug to find the product identification number. If your number matches one of the 11 recalled product numbers below, you should immediately stop using your recalled travel mug and contact Stanley to receive a free replacement lid.
