The local mayor, who attended an anti-immigration enforcement demonstration at Bell over the weekend, told the Los Angeles Times that the mood of the crowd had shifted from peace to anger after two unmarked SUVs ran towards protesters.
The violence unfolded Friday in the 7,000 block of Atlantic Avenue, north of Florence Boulevard, when federal immigration agents raided Jack’s car wash and detail to visit another car wash in nearby Maywood.
At least three people were detained at Bell’s location, with a large crowd urging them to protest and take them onto the streets.
Footage of the incident, obtained by the KTLA, shows local police officers trying to block the streets with yellow crime scene tapes.
At one point in the incident, Kadahai Mayor Elizabeth Alcantal Rosa is said to be a federal law enforcement agency for the unmarked cars that caused the violence.
“It felt like it was made to incite violence. People were protesting peacefully, and it was completely different because of the vehicles they were trying to drive into the crowd,” Alcantal Rosa told The Times. “We’ve seen it all in full. People appear in immigration work, violence is instituted on them. And they react and show themselves as violent protesters. In fact, when people were calm, they were chanting and protesting.

Just before 3pm, Bell Police Station officers responded to reports of traffic collisions near Atlantic Avenue and Brompton Street, according to a department statement.
At the scene, the jeep driver, along with the boy’s passenger, said he had a US Border Patrol vehicle at the rear. According to Bell PD, the driver had already been removed from the Jeep, probably when it arrived by federal authorities.
“As tensions surrounding federal immigration enforcement efforts have risen, crowds have begun to form around the scene,” BPD added. “Some individuals violated road safety barricades, attacked US customs and border patrol agents and destroyed police vehicles.”
In a statement posted to X, DHS officials said the driver was arrested on suspicion of assaulting the vehicle, and several federal vehicles had cut tires and broken windows, saying “a mob had formed.”
“Who are these people?” LA leaders involved in masked federal agents
“Federal law enforcement is facing an increase in attacks, but we are not deterred. Secretary Nome’s message is clear: Assaulting a federal officer will be charged. CBP and partners will continue to enforce the law.
Video captured at Riverfront Park near Maywood slowly drives a black SUV, a masked man standing just outside the open door of the vehicle, driving slowly, as he looks like a flash bang grape to people filming on his cell phone.
It is unclear as federal immigrant officials continue their local operations, but the number of state, county and local officials is increasing, and they are calling for a ban on masks for law enforcement officials, including federal agents.
