Authorities identified the deputy of the San Bernardino County Sheriff, who was killed in a violent traffic crash in Victorville on Monday.
The crash occurred at 11:09am at the intersection of Seneca Avenue and Elvead Roads, when a deputy was tracking a stolen vehicle in the area, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
At an afternoon press conference, Sheriff Shannon Dykas identified Kuevas as the victim and identified San Bernardino 22-year-old resident Ryan Dwayne Turner Jr. as the suspected driver of the stolen vehicle. Turner was arrested Monday afternoon and booked on charges of vehicle manslaughter while drunk, avoiding a peace officer and causing death or serious injury, Dikas said.
Daikas said he spent time with Cubas’ family and law enforcement colleagues on Monday. A man from a family that respects his aide, and “a talented cop who had the ability to deal with the most hardcore gang members and talk to children and feel safe.”
“Hector is the type of law enforcement officer we all want to be,” Dikas said. “He is an epic and great guardian and a great father, and we suffer from his losses and will support his family for quite some time.”
The suspect, Turner, was previously arrested for colliding with a law enforcement cruiser with a civilian and avoiding police at Rialto, Daikas said. The department recommends that he be detained without bail, Dikas said.
The Cuevas SUV appears to be ripped into two at the scene of the crash, and the black sedan caused front-end damage in the airbag deployment, KNBC-TV reported.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a major clash in Victorville on March 17, 2025, at the intersection of Seneca Road and El Evado Road.

Aerial video of the scene showed what appeared to be a body covered in an American flag next to the wreckage of the vehicle.
The exact details of what caused the crash were unknown, and department investigators are looking at skidmarks and other evidence to get a better grasp of what happened, Dikas said. One other driver was also involved in the accident, he said.
A sedan woman was injured and taken to hospital in unknown condition, according to a report from the KTLA.
“I can’t be more proud of Hector Quebus. He walked the walks and walked the line, and unfortunately he gave his life.
