The State Department has revoked visas for students who participated in the protest in Hamas’ favour. This is a move in line with President Donald Trump’s call to cancel visas for students involved in anti-Israel demonstrations on university campuses.

The State Department has reviewed the issue of Fox News without identifying students or the universities they attended due to “legal constraints.”

“Last evening, we revoked the first alien visa that had been previously cited for criminal activity in connection with the disruption in support of Hamas,” the State Department said. “This individual was a university student. ICE will proceed with taking this person out of the country.”

The State Department reviewed over 100,000 student visas, despite all anti-Israel protests and confusion on university campuses, and was revoked during the Biden administration.

Trump has repeatedly called for foreign students attending American universities to cancel their visas to support Hamas and other terrorist groups.

Upon taking office in January, he signed an executive order to combat anti-Semitism.

“To all the resident aliens who participated in the jihadist protests, we have notified you: Come in 2025, we will find you, and we will expel you,” Trump is quoted in a fact sheet issued by the White House. “I will also quickly cancel all Hamas sympathizer student visas on university campus.

U.S. university campuses have been a hotbed of anti-Israel protest and confusion, including vandalism, threats to Jewish students and violence against law enforcement.

“The Biden administration has turned a blind eye to this coordinated attack on the public order, which simply refused to protect the civil rights of Jewish Americans, especially students,” the factsheet says. “In December 2024, a staff member of the U.S. House of Representatives reported on anti-Semitism that “the failures of federal departments and agencies are incredible.”

On Thursday, Axios reported that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is launching an AI-fueled “Catch and evoke” effort to cancel visas for foreign students that appear to support designated terrorist groups.

“People who support those who are designated terrorist organizations, including Hamas, who threaten our national security,” he wrote in X.
