President Donald Trump has recently reported multiple times to the West Wing situation room, considering the conflict in Iran has boiled down and launching its own attack on the Islamic Republic that raises concerns that could generate nuclear weapons in a short period of time.
“Yes, I might do that. I might not do that. I mean no one knows what I’m going to do. Iran has a lot of trouble and they say they want to negotiate,” Trump told reporters in the US on Wednesday. “And I said, why did you not negotiate with me before all of this death and destruction? Why did you tell people? Why did you not negotiate with me two weeks ago? Were you fine? You would have had a country.
Fox News Digital spoke to former news agency Kayleigh McNany, host of Fox News and former news agency who served under the Trump administration, and former national security advisor John Bolton, former national security advisor under the first Trump administration, John Bolton, and former national security advisor under President George W. Bush. They both conveyed the serious and historic tone where the room and its meetings are usually held.
The Situation Room is a high-tech 5,000-square-foot complex located on the West Wing of the White House, which includes multiple meeting rooms. President John F. Kennedy commissioned the complex in 1961 after a failed pig invasion to overthrow Cuba’s Castro regime in the same year, according to the National Archives. The complex was built to provide a dedicated area for crisis management to future presidents, and was upgraded in 2006 and renovated again in 2023.

“I’ll often sit there and think about the Osama bin Laden attack,” McEnany told Fox News Digital in a phone interview Thursday morning. “This is what we saw our heroic special forces take Osama bin Laden during the Obama administration, and we think there’s a bigger decision going on at another point where a similar decision is being made, and in that room that could change the course of history.”

Trump once again held a meeting in the Situation Room on Thursday morning. He followed a Wednesday afternoon situation room meeting, followed by another meeting with national security advisers on Tuesday afternoon, followed by a Monday evening meeting with a sudden return from the G7 summit in Canada this week.
The finest national security officials, including Secretary of Defense, Secretary Pete Hegses, Director of National Intelligence, Vice President Tarsi Gabbard, Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and envoys of the Middle East Steve Witkov, are among the officials who joined Trump at a meeting where the administration is considering a spiral conflict.

Bolton explained to Fox Digital in a phone interview Thursday morning that two top-level meetings will be held in the Situation Room.
The first is known as the “Principal Conference,” he said. This includes Cabinet Secretaries, such as Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense, and is chaired by the national security adviser currently listed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“The Principal Committee usually meets to try and sort it all out, so that the president knows what decisions he will face,” Bolton said. “They make sure they’re all in-depth, make informed decisions, set the options they see, what their advantages and disadvantages are, and then explain it to (the president).”

The second type of situation room meeting at the top level is the official National Security Council meeting, chaired by the President.

“He chaired the full NSC meeting, people review information, update the situation, the president asks questions with an advisor, research the details of the analysis, choose options, or Bolton, who served as Trump’s national security advisor from April 2018 to September 2019.
“And then there could be a decision,” he added.

McEnany served as the first top spokeswoman for the Trump administration at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic when the Coronavirus Task Force left the situation room when it swept Covid-19 nationwide.
“A lot of important decisions have been made during the pandemic,” she said. “It’s a humble encounter. Every time you enter, you leave a phone at the door. You enter, like 5,000 square feet, you’re sitting there, there’s a clock from every country in the world. And you’re just sitting there.

She continued to spend hours each day in the situation room as the team onslaught of updates from across the country during the pandemic. Trump frequently received toplines from meetings and joined the situation room during key decisions amid the spread of the virus.
“When he was there, there’s absolutely respect,” she said. He mentioned how the tone of the room changes upon Trump’s arrival. “Even so, you had a major official who wasn’t afraid to give him a point of view. But I think there’s a perception that he’s the commander.”

Secretaries of press organizations usually do not attend famous National Security Council meetings in the Situation Room, but they have security clearance and can call the room if necessary and provide updates from senior officials.
McEnany added that press secretaries would normally not want to be in the room for high stakes because “you don’t want your head to fill up with deliberations of these sensitive, classified information” when talking to the media.

Bolton explained that issues such as Iran are likely to have limited situational office meetings, including national security officials such as the Secretary of Defense, Director of National Intelligence and Co-State Chief of Staff.
“Sometimes, it includes those Secretary of Homeland Security, Secretary of Homeland Security, Secretary of Commerce, etc.” “But in this kind of decision, it can be very restrictive, so perhaps there are no national security advisers, but the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of Defense, Director of National Intelligence, CIA Director, Co-Chief of Staff, perhaps the Attorney General.”
Mike Waltz, Trump’s first national security adviser under the second administration, was removed from that role and was appointed as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in May, with Rubio taking on the additional role. The White House has also cut down the staffing at the NSC since Trump took office, including after Rubio took the helm.

“I have a direct message from the president. “I will quote based on the fact that there is a considerable potential for negotiation that may or may not be with Iran in the near future. We will decide whether to go within the next two weeks.” That is a direct quote from the president,” she said Thursday.
Israel launched its first strike in Iran on June 12 after months of halt that stagnated by attempting nuclear negotiations and raised concerns that followed. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu soon declared that “a strike is necessary to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel’s survival.”
He added that if Israel does not act, “Iran can produce nuclear weapons in a very short time.”
The strike, known as the “Operation Raisinglion,” targeted Iran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure and killed senior Iranian military leaders.

Trump has repeatedly urged Iran to make deals on its nuclear program, but the country has stepped out of ongoing talks with the US scheduled for Sunday in Oman.

Levitt added at a briefing Thursday that Trump is “the best of Peacemakers,” but he also said he’s not one to be embarrassed to bending America’s strength.

“The President has always been interested in diplomatic solutions to the global conflict problem in this world. Again, he is the head of peace superintendent. He is a president beyond peace. And if there is an opportunity for diplomatic relations, the President will always grab it.
