A United Parcel Service employee was fired after he was caught on home surveillance camera stealing an Apple Watch that was meant to be a gift, the company told KTLA 5 News.
The theft recently occurred in the Gramercy Park area of Los Angeles.
A camera mounted above the victim’s front yard first shows the UPS truck pulling up to the curb across the street.
The delivery man walks to the main gate with a small package in his arms. Instead of dropping the package on the porch, the man turned around to check on his partner, unwrapped the watch, and threw the empty package into a nearby trash can.

The deliveryman circled back to the UPS truck, and he and his partner drove away.
Elyu Chavez told KTLA that the Apple Watch was supposed to be a gift for his wife. He checked the status of the order and confirmed that the watch had been delivered. When it didn’t show up, he checked surveillance video to see what happened.
“Seasonal employment has been discontinued,” UPS said in a statement to KTLA on Thursday. “This incident does not reflect our values. We do not tolerate theft. UPS employees are trained to operate with integrity and professionalism, and our company We are committed to providing reliable and safe shipping to our customers.”
Apple Watch prices range from $150 to $800 depending on the model.
