The Ventura County caregiver was arrested on charges of allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from an elderly woman caring for her.
Suspect Heather Moore, 25, was identified by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Thursday.
On September 12, 2024, the agent received a report of possible financial elder abuse of an 81-year-old woman in Ojai.
During the investigation, authorities learned that Moore was allegedly stealing the victim’s check and changing it to make the purchase.
In total, checks over $3,000 have been changed, forged and paid to Moore.
Moore is accused of using victims’ cognitive decline and implementing the scheme using access to women’s personal items.
“Thankfully, the warning bookkeeper noticed the change and warned the victim’s family,” the deputy said.
On January 23rd, Moore was arrested for elder abuse, counterfeiting and grand larceny. She was booked at the Ventura County Jail and is currently suing a court case, the Sheriff’s Office said on March 13.
No further details have been made public as the case is under investigation.
