The 60-year-old Vincent Thomas Bridge over the Port of Los Angeles is scheduled to close in late 2025 or early 2026 for construction, raising concerns for motorists.
The suspension bridge is structurally sound and is an important link for trucks traveling between the twin ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. However, Caltrans says the bridge is deteriorating due to environmental causes and heavy traffic loads.
In response to the anticipated closure, a Traffic Management Planning Task Force, comprised of Caltrans and other agencies, elected officials, and the public, will work to gather public input on potential detours caused by the closure. The second meeting is scheduled to be held in .
The meeting will be held Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at 828 S. San Pedro. It will be held at the Anderson Memorial Senior Center on Mesa Street.
The closure will allow crews to install a new bridge deck, which Caltrans says will result in the shortest construction time and is the cheapest and safest option.
The anticipated 16-month project is expected to be completed in spring 2027.
