The Dallas Mavericks are on the watch.

When the 2025 NBA Draft begins, a new group of young prospects is set to enter the league. Dallas won the lottery with just 1.8% odds in May and landed their first dibs on the Star Duke Prospect Cooper Flag.

Flag has been a consensus-top prospect for this class for several years, with Dallas making his first choice shortly after trading Luka Doncic for the Los Angeles Lakers.

However, unlike last year’s class, the pool of talent beyond Flagg is far more intriguing. Also, while the flag isn’t just the top five Duke picks, Rutgers can have two of its own top five picks.

With the first round of the draft in progress, here’s everything you need to know:

Who is the outlook for the top of the 2025 NBA Draft?

The top prospect is Duke’s Cooper Flag given his frame, skills and possibilities. He is a rare blend of future options, quickly round to competitors.

Beyond the flag, Rutgers has both Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey in the mix. Harper could be an elite combo guard given his 6-foot-10 wingspan, but his 33% 3-point shooting needs to be improved at the next level. Bailey has a chop that will become a star shot making, but he needs to improve defensively while there were some red flags regarding cancelling pre-draft training with his team.

Duke prospect Kon Knueppel is a plug and play 3-point shooter. His versatility allows him to play in multiple positions with sweet shots from deep. Athleticism is defensively concerning, so it will be interesting to see how he handles the ending.

Other top five picks include Baylor G VJ Edgecombe, Texas G/F Tre Jackson and Illinois G Kasparas Jakucionis.

Outside the top five, potential steels include Duke C Hamannmalach, Michigan G Jace Richardson, Duke G/F Tyree Sproctor, Colorado G/F Neek Clifford, Michigan C Danny Wolf, St. John’s F RJ Lewis Jr.
