The woman was allegedly shot and killed after a standoff in Woodland Hills Monday morning after being said to have led police in a chase.

The armed, unidentified 42-year-old woman is currently in serious condition, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Chase began at about 7:45am in Van Nuisse after LAPD officials responded to reporting a potential shooting.

“Passby said they were worried that there was a shooting because they saw the van having a bullet hole in the windshield, and they said,” LAPD detective Meghan Aguilar said. “The officers arrived and they met with the woman outside the van… She produced a handgun and pointed it at herself and returned to the van.”

Police say she led them in a slow speed pursuit before stopping by the cul-de-dead on Mulholland Drive in the south of Woodland Hills.

Sky5 was above the area where the van stopped at about 8am, but was unable to get a clear view due to the wood cover and low clouds. Several squad cars were seen in the area. One officer was seen talking to a man in the carport, while several LAPD airships were also seen watching the scene from above.

The woman had been in a conflict with police for about 45 minutes, an eyewitness said. A video posted to the Civic App showed her standing and kneeling on the van before lying on her chest.

She seemed to have something sticking out from the top of her shirt, but it was not clear from the footage what it was. Her van appeared to have cardboard blocking the passenger side window.

LAPD officials confirmed at 9:30am that at least one officer fired the weapon during the standoff. Details remain limited, but police confirmed that the woman was attacked and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Videos obtained later by KTLA show the presence of a large-scale police in the area, with nearby residents evacuating from their homes.

A single resident of the area described the moment leading up to her dead-end anniversary standoff near her home.

“I was just walking down the street and there was a helicopter. [but] Sophie Greenbaum told KTLA’s Kimberly Chen. “But they came over my head and followed her a white van on the street with ten police cars… [has been] Many police activities last for hours. ”

“I pray that everyone is safe and alright,” she added.

Another resident said she heard two gunshots but said she couldn’t know who fired them or whether someone had been hit.

“They were just trying to calm her down… they didn’t want to hurt her,” the resident said.

At this point it is unclear if a woman engaged in a shootout, or why the gun was released from hospital, and how many officers fired at the suspect.

“There’s a lot to come before you get close to such a suspect,” Aguilar said. “First and foremost, they are looking at the safety of the field officers and trying to measure how safe the approach is, while obviously she needs to get medical care.”

Authorities also confirmed that the woman had three dogs with her at the time of the shooting. Two of them are placed and taken to animal care care, while the third is being asked to escape.

At this time, the extent of the injury to the woman has not been announced, and the investigation is continuing.
