Freddie Freeman’s historic walk-off grand slam ball in Game 1 of the World Series has been sold at auction for $1.56 million.
Bidding at the SCP auction continued until late Saturday night, according to an announcement from the auction house on Sunday. It was not revealed who bought the ball.
Freeman, first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers, stepped up to bat with two outs and bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning against the New York Yankees due to a sprained right ankle.
He hit Nestor Cortez’s first pitch 413 feet, completing the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history.

The Dodgers won 6-3 and won their eighth World Series championship in five games.
This is the second Dodgers-related ball to go up for auction this season. The ball hit by Shohei Ohtani, the first player in Major League history to hit 50 home runs and steal at least 50 bases in a season, sold for approximately $4.4 million, setting a record for the most expensive ball in sports history.
