Our favorite TV show set in Pasadena is holding a screening in Los Angeles with nearly the entire cast in attendance. No, we’re not talking about The Big Bang Theory.
Before Shrinking concludes its second run, the cast and creators of the Apple TV+ comedy will gather for a screening and panel discussion presented by the Paley Media Center. On Thursday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m., PaleyLive’s “Shrinking Night” heads to the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills for an early airing of the season’s penultimate episode, followed by the show’s lead (of most of the time) and the creative team.
Writers and creators Bill Lawrence (of Scrubs and Ted Lasso fame), Jason Segel (who appeared on the show as Jimmy), and Brett Goldstein (who guest starred this season as Louis) were all in attendance, giving a great insight into the show’s excellence. The central figures from the series are also expected to participate. Cast: Jessica Williams (Gaby), Luke Tenney (Sean), Christa Miller (Liz), Lukita Maxwell (Alice), Ted McGinley (Derek). One notable absence is Harrison Ford. This seems to be on brand with Paul, the charmingly difficult therapist he plays in the series.
Tickets are on sale now for the most senior members of the Paley Center. This opportunity will expand to individual, family, and support tier memberships on Wednesday, November 13th at 9am. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Thursday, November 14th at 9am. Seating prices range from $60 to $125 for the general public and $40 to $100 for members.
The series, which follows Siegel, a self-destructive widow, as she tries to rebuild her personal life and therapy practice, was praised for its first season’s surprisingly feel-good combination of melancholy and comedy, and Time Out magazine’s 2023 It was ranked on the list of best TV shows. The supporting cast steals the scene. But for San Gabriel Valley residents, the sunny Pasadena setting is an added incentive to see the show. Episodes regularly feature famous locations like the city’s Central Park, as well as local businesses like Copa Vida and Lucky Baldwin’s sister pub east of Pasadena City College. In addition to scenes filmed on the Warner Bros. Studios property, Altadena and Eagle Rock also make an appearance.
