Authorities say two boys in Waymo’s self-driving taxis were shot dead in Santa Monica on Sunday night.
A Santa Monica Police Station spokesman confirmed with KTLA in a preliminary statement that officers had been dispatched to the corner of 2nd Avenue and Broadway to investigate the shootings.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that both young victims had gunshot wounds. They were taken to hospital and are currently stable with every SMPD.

Their exact age and gender have not been released.

“Preliminary information shows that the shooting is a targeted and isolated incident that followed an oral argument early in the evening between the victim and suspect,” Santa Monica police said. “At the time of the shooting, the victim was a passenger in an autonomous ride-sharing vehicle when the suspect approached on foot and fired multiple rounds at the vehicle before fleeing the scene.”

Details surrounding the investigation, which has been described as “open and active” by authorities, including descriptions of the suspect, were not immediately available.
The second and Broadway areas were blocked for the first investigation, according to footage sent from KTLA viewers.
