Authorities warn that there may be additional victims after the adoptive arrest in Hesperia on Tuesday on suspicion of child abuse.

Investigators with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department supported details (CAC) for the child after being reported in February that the 7-year-old foster child was being abused in Hesperia.

The child was placed in Meira Alvarez de Giron’s foster care facility by Los Angeles County Children and Family Services.

The 63-year-old foster parent was later identified as a suspect in the case, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. No details are provided about the abuse or the role of Alvarez de Giron.

She was charged with felony child abuse on Friday and an arrest warrant was issued, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Meira Alvarez de Giron can be seen in images provided by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office.

Alvarez de Giron was arrested Tuesday in the 8300 block of Sweetwater Avenue and booked at the High Desert Detention Center without bail.

“Detectives believe there may be additional casualties from previous foster care locations and are releasing photos of Alvarez de Giron,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

Anyone with information about the incident was encouraged to contact Detective Wendy Winegar at 909-890-4904. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can call We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-782-7463.
