In the seventh straight season, Anaheim’s ducks will not be participating in the NHL’s Stanley Cup playoffs. Next year, they will try to beat that streak with a new face behind the bench.
The team announced on Saturday that manager Greg Cronin will not return for next season. In two seasons at the helm, the ducks put together a record of 62-87-15.
During the 2024-2025 regular season that ended this week, ducks went 35-37-10. This scored 80 points in a standings of 16 behind the St. Louis Blues in the final playoff spot of the Western Conference.

“I would like to personally thank Greg for his tireless work and dedication to his team,” general manager Pat Barbiek said in a statement. “He is responsible for many things for improvement seen from our younger core. However, after a few weeks of careful evaluation, we concluded that direction and new voice changes were needed.
Cronin was hired prior to the 2023-2024 season. Before serving as head coach of the ducks, he coached the Colorado Eagles, a minor league AHL affiliate for the Colorado Avalanche.
His prowess as a talent developer was key to his employment by Anaheim. The franchise had been restructuring its roster after many years of competing for the Stanley Cup.
However, the Ducks leadership was clearly not satisfied with his progress over the two seasons.
The Dachshunds are now searching for new head coaches. There, expectations for next season will rise. With young talent like Leo Carlson, Cutter Gautier, Mason McTavish and Trevor Zegrass – all under the age of 25, the Ducks should be expected to compete for playoff spots from 2025 to 2026.
