August 8, 2025 – On 8/8, I nodded to my father’s first Lakers number. Eight-year-old Bianca Bryant took the mound in front of a sold-out crowd at Dodger Stadium and kicked the Dodgers tribute night out to the late NBA legend Cobe Bryant.
In front of tens of thousands of surveillance fans, Bianca delivered a ritual first pitch from the middle, delivering the waiting mitt of Dodgers’ baseman Freddie Freeman. Click here for a video of Bianca’s pitch.
On the field, her mom, Vanessa Bryant, cheered alongside her sisters Natalia and Capri. After Bianca’s pitch, Capri grabbed the microphone and informed the crowd, “It’s time for Dodgers baseball!”

To honor Kobe with a date that reflected the characteristics of his career, the Dodgers gave the first 40,000 fans a special edition of the bobblehead depicting him in the No. 24 Lakers jersey, bat and Dodgers-themed Kobe 6 Protro sneakers. The tribute comes five years after Kobe and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, tragically died in a helicopter crash.
The announced 53,825 attendees, Full Stadium and Bianca pitch video quickly circulated on social media.
The Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-1 that night.
