Could it be summer in LA without spending the night in the cemetery watching Classic Cinema? That’s right, it’s time for the announcement of the first Cinespia lineup of the year, one of our favorite seasonal traditions.

The beloved series will return to Hollywood Forever Cemetery this anniversary weekend and will be screened three times to close the month.

If LA escapes you with the ritual of masabsa and sound, here’s the deal. Since 2002, Cinespiia has been projecting the film forever onto the side of Hollywood spirits us. Thousands of picnickers appear early, gaining a Fairbanks lawn spot and dig into their bio snacks and drinks (yes, including beer and wine). This adds to the hot food, popcorn, beer and wine sold on the outdoor film series premises.

It’s not just the cemeteries that set Cinespiia apart. Each screen is preceded by a set of DJs followed by a very elaborate photo background that you can pose for free. For example, when Cinespia screened Clueless a few years ago, he recreated Cher’s bedroom. And on the big Lebowski, I was able to pose in front of the Bowling Dream Sequence that the Checker is holding on (you can see the background of the 2021 event below).

Expect more monthly screening announcements to come over the summer. Last year’s schedule also included offsite events at LA State Historic Park and The Rose Bowl, but if screenings are visible at these landmarks this year, there’s no word yet.

General admission tickets for the cemetery screening announced by Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video will range from $30 (including fees), while parking ranges between $24 and $36. You can search for free street parking on the streets surrounding the cemetery, but that’s quite limited. The chance may have to resort to one of the paid garages near Paramount Pictures Studios in the south.
