Today is National Donuts Day, and if you need another reason to reach for deep frying, Helms Bakery in Culver City will fried special donuts only on weekends, in collaboration with candies from our beloved chocolate brand Sea. The locally established company operates one of its main chocolate factories, just a few blocks away, on busy Lasienega Boulevard.

See’s Toffee-Ette Donut ($5) consists of a raised yeast round filled with toffee cream, chocolate glaze, crushed toffee etz and drizzling white chocolate. I actually had the opportunity to try the donuts before the preview and it is tasty. Toffee cream is overwhelmingly less sweet, and the chocolate glaze works well with crushed nuts and toffee and white chocolate tips.

Limited-time items are available today (last supply) from Sunday June 8th to Sunday June 8th, depending on popularity and supplies. In our account, Helms Bakery is already home to some of the best donuts in town, but half a dozen flavors are available at any time.

The Toffee-Ette Donut is the first in a series of limited collaborations between the two iconic LA brands. Over the summer, Culver City Bakery, Deli and Gourmet Market will be unveiling at least three unique items (pastry, Sunday and drinks) inspired by See’s distinctive sweets.

Helms Bakery is located at 3220 Helms Avenue in Los Angeles, California and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8am to 5pm.
