Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem traveled to Illinois on Friday to summon the JB Pretzker government and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, accusing Democrats of being “closedist” when it comes to ousting illegal criminal immigrants from the streets.
Speaking in the Chicago suburbs, Noem highlighted the recent ice halt of illegal Mexican immigrants convicted of predatory sexual assault on victims under the age of 13.
“These individuals would still be on our streets today, committing crimes, attacking people, hurting them, and hurting children if Mayor Johnson had their way.
“The debate about so-called sanctuary policies has real consequences and affects our law enforcement officials, but it also affects the businesses we are trying to offer to the families and communities that live here,” she added.

Representatives from both Pritzker and Johnson did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital on Friday.
“I’m here today because these elected Illinois leaders ignore the law. In fact, they’re occluders when it comes to getting dangerous criminals out of the streets,” Noem said. “They are deciding that they have committed attacks on dangerous criminals, who are murderers, rapists and money launderers.

“That includes Governor Pretzker, Mayor Johnson and others who worked hard to protect these dangerous criminals. They are rather sanctuary and continue to put American citizens, American citizens who built this country, American citizens who raised them here for generations,” Noem added.
Norm told reporters Friday that “for the past seven months, ICE has issued more than 1,664 detention persons in Chicago alone,” recording a “106% increase” over the one issued by the Biden administration.

“Unfortunately, Chicago and its leadership only honor 8% of those,” she said.
