Three Housing and Urban Development (HUD) field offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City have temporarily closed their doors in the face of violence caused by anti-ice riots and protests.
The temporary closures due to violence have been argued that Democrats such as California Rep. Maxine Waters and Michigan Rep. Rashida Tribe will be permanently shut down for government efficiency efforts, saying that such closures will “affect families and communities across the country that rely on HUDs will affect housing support and community development projects.
HUD secretary Scott Turner told Fox News Digital on Tuesday that liberal claims in recent weeks had denounced Democrats for “encouraging riots” that caused temporary shutters, while claiming that the field office was “fake news.”
“The left and legacy media have spread fake news in false reports that HUD is closing its field offices,” Turner told Fox News Digital on Tuesday. “Now they’re encouraging riots that actually forced at least three field offices to temporarily close.”

“Di-run blue states like California have suffered from leadership failures, bringing record-breaking homelessness, unchecked illegal alien crimes, and now we see pandemonium, chaos and destruction as fully displayed,” he added. “The American people deserve better. HUD will continue to serve our community in the face of this reckless violence, while prioritizing safety and security.”

Currently, Spirals are temporarily closed in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City as riots and protests. Los Angeles has seen widespread riots since Friday when federal law enforcement officials gathered in the city as part of President Donald Trump’s campaign pledge to deport millions of illegal immigrants who cross borders under the Biden administration.
Since the LA riots began, other anti-ice protests have erupted in New York City and San Francisco, leading to dozens of arrests.

Fox News Digital has obtained more than dozens of images showing graffiti scattered across federal buildings in downtown LA, home to the HUD Field Office. HUD’s satellite office is just blocked from City Hall, where some of the violent riots are unfolding.
In early 2025, media posted the headline that the Trump administration had plans to close dozens of HUD field offices across the country. Turner said on Tuesday’s X that his division “has not closed a single field office.”
Waters headed a group of Democrats and anti-do protesters in March to enter HUD headquarters and try to hand over a protest letter to Turner demanding “answer to efforts to be determined by the federal housing program.”

Breitbart News reported in March that Breitbart News warned that California Democrats would be allowed to enter HUD headquarters, and California Democrats would “all night” until they met Turner, but California Democrats warned. HUD staff notified the group that would deliver the letter to Turner, and Waters protested for a meeting with the HUD secretary.

Tlaib also tried to join a gag of a lawmaker requesting he meet with Turner, but was seen stopped at the entrance to the HUD in video footage. Tlaib was heard screaming, “You don’t give sh-!” He was an employee of HUD as a group of lawmakers and Doge protesters, and eventually left the building without meeting Turner.
A month after the HUD trip, Waters wrote to the government’s accountability director in April, asking for an investigation into allegations that “the administration plans to close local field offices and terminate housing agency staff.”
“I am concerned about how this will affect families and communities across the country that rely on housing support, community, economic development projects, and enforcement of federal fair housing and civil rights laws,” Waters wrote in the letter.

“Around 54 field office employees worked in localized expertise and communities, provided face-to-face technical assistance, provided timely guidance to local grantees and officials, speeding up project timelines and managing federal law oversight and enforcement in each region,” she continued. “The Trump administration’s proposal to close 34 field offices would significantly disrupt the federal government’s housing program, halt local development projects and threaten the employment of around 360 full-time employees.”

When Fox News Digital asked whether they were still concerned about the closure of HUD offices due to violence in left-wing cities, they contacted their respective offices at Waters’s and Tlaib, but were not immediately responded.
A riot broke out in Los Angeles Friday evening after federal law enforcement officials gathered around the city and carried out an immigrant raid. Local leaders, including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Gov. Gavin Newsom, quickly condemned the attack on the official statement, offering words of support to illegal immigrants in the state.
Protests against the attack quickly fell into violence as rioters targeted federal law enforcement officials in videos showing rioters plundering local shops, setting cars on fire and taking over the highway, including video showing them.

Trump announced Saturday that he was deploying 2,000 National Guard members to quell the violence, and the administration deployed hundreds of Marines to respond to anti-immigrant disruptions on Monday evening when the violence continued.

“If you ‘sent the troops’ to Los Angeles the past three nights, then it’s going to be a once-beautiful and great city burning to the ground now,” Trump posted to The Truth Society on Tuesday morning.
