The suspect in the murder of a 38-year-old man in Long Beach was identified, captured and held on millions of dollars in bonds last month, police said Friday.
The murder detective has been searching for a Durrelshell murderer since being shot multiple times on February 19th in the 1400 block of Loca Store Avenue.
“Through their investigation, the murder detective identified the suspect as Edgar Melger Salazar, a 28-year-old resident of Long Beach,” the Long Beach Police Department said in a news release.
On Thursday, a detective from the Special Investigation Division and a special weapons and tactics team arrested Salazar from his home.
Investigators initially believed the shooting was gang-related, but on Friday the motives and circumstances remained unknown.
“The investigation is still underway, but detectives do not believe that the suspect and the victim were previously known to each other,” police said.
Salazar was taken to Long Beach City Prison where he was booked for murder. His bail was set at $3 million.
Anyone with detailed information about the case was urged to contact murder detective Reyes at 562-570-7244. Those who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit the lacrimestoppers.org website.
