Police are asking the public to avoid the downtown Los Angeles area near the Crypto.com Arena after officers fired a man who wields a machete Sunday morning.

Los Angeles police confirmed with KTLA about 9:12am that officers had been called to the area of Olympic Boulevard and Figueroa Street to report a man armed with a machete threatening security guards.

Details are limited, and LAPD did not immediately expand on what happened between call times and time arrival, but early reports and viewer footage began with a short pursuit, ending with shots fired in front of the Crypto.com arena.

The LA Fire Department told KTLA that the crew were called to the scene of a shooting involving officers at 1158 S. Figueroa St. Lafd.

Paramedics arrived and transported the unidentified victim to hospital, LAFD said he was entering cardiac arrest. As of 10:20am, authorities have not provided the man’s age or updated status.

The LAPD Central Division was posted to X at 9:33am and warns the community that a proactive investigation will close Figuero A Street between Pico Boulevard and 12th Avenue. The department later said LA Live Way would remain open for the Sparks game on Sunday.
