A murder suspect is in custody after a man was fatally stabbed in the chest in a McDonald’s parking lot Sunday afternoon, police confirmed to KTLA.
According to the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD), officers received a report of a stabbing outside a fast food restaurant near the intersection of Bristol Street and Sunflower Avenue around 3:05 p.m.
Officers responded to the scene and found a man with at least one stab wound to the chest. Details are very limited and it is unclear what led to the stabbing, but authorities confirmed that police have a person of interest in custody.
According to SAPD, the man was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The victim’s identity was not immediately released.
Officers also posted X posts just before 5 p.m. and again at 7:49 p.m., asking people to avoid the intersection while the murder investigation was underway.
“SAPD has confirmed a homicide in the area of Bristol Street and Sunflower Avenue,” the department added in a later X post.
Video footage of the police response posted on Citizen.com shows multiple law enforcement units on the scene and officers rolling tape around a large area of the parking lot.

The investigation is ongoing, but authorities had not released a description of the suspect as of Sunday night.
