Los Angeles County health officials are advised to avoid swimming, surfing or playing in the ocean in two popular locations after it was revealed that the levels of bacteria are high.
The Ministry of Public Health issued a warning on Tuesday to the waters near the Santa Monica Pier, extending 100 yards in both directions from the pier and extending it throughout the swimming area at inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro.
Recent testing showed that bacterial levels exceeded state health standards at these locations, officials said.
Meanwhile, warnings have been lifted in the Pico Kenter Storm Drain Area at Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu, Santa Monica Beach (near Santa Monica South Tower 20) and the Castle Rock Storm Drain Area at Topanga County Beach.
Recent samples show that water quality at these locations is currently within acceptable levels.
For the latest information on beach condition, residents can call the county’s 24-hour beach closure hotline at 1-800-525-5662 or visit Publicchealth.lacounty.gov/ beach/ for maps of affected areas and more.
