Police released new details on Monday in the tragic and unsolved murder of a young Pasadena boy.
On the evening of November 20th, 2021, 13-year-old Iran Moreno Barbaneda was playing video games in her bedroom when the shooting erupted outside her home. A stray bullet sprinted through the wall and attacked the boy.
The family told KTLA that Iran collapsed in the living room and held him in his arms while his father was waiting for an ambulance. Iran was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead.
Iran was a straightforward student at Blair Middle School, his family said, he was in eighth grade. He loves basketball and soccer and was described as friendly by his relatives.

Preliminary reports and security footage from the night showed a grey Ford Fusion stopped in the parking lot across from the boy’s house in the 900 block of Raymond Avenue, and as he hit one Iran, he shot out east and fired the passenger seat. He then returned to the car and drove. Police said they do not believe Iran or others in the home were intended targets.
The Pasadena Police Department continued to investigate the murder in the following days and weeks, offering rewards of up to $85,000 for information leading to arrests and convictions, with little success.
At the time, the only suspect description was that the shooter was a man wearing a gray hoodie or a long-sleeved shirt, and it was estimated that the sedan was manufactured between 2017 and 2020.
However, on Monday, police said the newly enhanced surveillance video revealed a clearer description of the shooter and a partial license plate number QJ117 for Ford Fusion.
According to the police department, the suspect is estimated to be between 33 and 37 years old, and is said to be a black man who is estimated to weigh between 6 and 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs 185 to 195 pounds. Additionally, investigators identified a distinctive hooded sweatshirt he wore as a red and black North Face brand.
