LOS ANGELES (AP) – The 97th Academy Awards spread love, awarding awards to “Anola,” “Conclave,” “Evil,” and “Material,” and piloted towards the end of the nail bitter.
Eight of the 10 films nominated for Best Picture won at least one award at the Dolby Theater on Sunday. It included the plagued Netflix candidate “Emilia Pérez.” This won Zoe Saldaña’s best supporting actress despite backlash against an old offensive tweet by star Cara Sofia Gascon.
It was “Anola,” a strip club Cinderella story with no fairy tale ending, and it was shining in the best picture, but handed Sean Baker’s gritty, Brooklyn set Screwball False Hollywood top prize.

Mikey Madison won the best actress Oscar on “Anola” on Sunday. This is the role that hit the 25-year-old man in a burgeoning film career after his first success on television.
The Brooklyn Set comedy drama received six nominations.
Madison was best known for playing a gross teenager in the 2022 FX comedy series “Better Things.” She also appeared in the fifth article in “Once Upon a Time…Hollywood” and the horror franchise “Scream.”
Sean Baker wins the best director of his third Oscar “Anola”

Sean Baker won the Oscar Best Director for “Anola” on Sunday, booking the dominant awards season for American filmmakers trying to humanize sex workers and immigrants.
Previously, Baker won the Oscar Oscar for the comedy drama “Anora,” about a sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch. Baker also directed, produced and edited the film starring Mikey Madison.
The film is the biggest success of Baker’s career. He has a $6 million budget and has made more than $40 million with Box Officer.
Adrien Brody wins Best Actor for her performance in “The Brutalist”

Adrian Brody won his second Oscar for Best Actor and Sunday for his role as a visionary Hungarian architect in “Brutal” and solidified his legacy as one of Hollywood’s most persuasive talents.
Brody took home the best actor at the 97th Academy Awards for her powerful portrayal of Lazlotus sailing to the US to escape the Holocaust and find American dreams. The film spans 30 years in the life of Tóth, a fictional character whose unorthodox design challenges social norms and the ruthless pursuit of artistic integrity.
“The Brutalist” won an Oscar and won the Best Original Score
First Academy Award nominee Daniel Brunberg is an Oscar winner. He took home the trophy with his original score of “Brutal” on Sunday.
Blumberg defeated Clément Ducol and Camille (“Emilia Pérez”), Kris Bowers (“The Wild Robot”), Volker Bertelmann (“Conclave”), John Powell and Stephen Schwartz (“Evil”).
“I’ve been an artist for 20 years,” Blumberg said in his acceptance speech. “And when I met (director) Brady (Corbett), I met my artistic soulmate.”
Corbett’s “Brutalist” followed Lazlotus, a fictional, visionary Hungarian architect who escaped the Holocaust, sailed to America to find American dreams, creating the architectural style that the film takes its name.
Brazil’s “I’m Still Here” Oscar won the best international film
“I’m still here,” he won the best international film at the Oscars on Sunday with a Brazilian film about a family torn apart by a military dictatorship that ruled Brazil for over 20 years.
Walter Sales’ film stars Fernanda Torres as Eunice Paiva, the wife of former Brazilian MP Rubens Paiva, who was taken away from his family, Rio de Janeiro, in 1971 at the height of the country’s military dictatorship and never returned.
“No Other Lands” won the best documentary for Oscar
“There’s no other land,” the story of Palestinian activists fighting to protect their communities from demolition by Israeli military won an Oscar on Sunday for their best documentary.
The collaboration between Israeli and Palestinian filmmakers follows activist Basel Adora as Israeli soldiers risk arrests to document the destruction of his hometown, which is being demolished for use as a military training zone on the southern tip of the West Bank. Adora’s plea falls in deaf ears until he becomes friends with a Jewish Israeli journalist who helps him amplify his story.
“No Other Land” became a night as a top candidate after a success on the film festival circuit. However, after being picked up for distribution in 24 countries, they never found a US distributor. For Oscar, it defeated “The Porcelain War,” “Sugar Cane,” “Black Box Diaries,” and “The Coup Soundtrack.”
The documentary was filmed for four years between 2019 and 2023, wrapping up production dates before Hamas launched a deadly attack on Israel, which launched the war in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
“El Mar” won the best original song at Oscar
French composer duo Clement Docor and Kamille won the Oscars’ Original Song Award on Sunday. In January, “Ermal” also won the Golden Globe in the same category.

The musical “Emilia Perez” is a lot. It is musical, trans parables, endlessly controversial, and frequently criticised for its portrayal of Mexican culture.
“We are very grateful,” Kamille said in her acceptance speech.

Zoe Saldaña won the first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for “Emilia Pérez”, and won the awards season already completed on Sunday.
Saldaña accepted the award from the ruler of Da’vine Joy Randolph in the category.
This victory will be added to the Stars’ Success collection on the Awards Circuit. Saldanya won her first Golden Globe in January, winning a notch at the British Academy Film Awards, Critics Choice Awards and Screen Actors Gilded Awards.
“Conclave” wins an Oscar and wins the best adapted script
The Pope’s Conspiracy film was written by British author Playlight Peter Strafan, based on a 2016 novel of the same name by British novelist Robert Harris.
Strafan and Harris are both veterans in the thriller genre. Other script credits for Straughan include adaptations of “The Snowman” and John Le Curré’s “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.”
Paul Tazewell becomes the first black man to win a costume design award

“Wicked” was the biggest box office gross of the best photo nominees and won the award for Best Costume Design by Paul Tazewell.
“I am the first black man to win a costume design award,” said Tazewell, who was unable to finish the sentence before the crowd stood up with a standing ovation. “I’m very proud of this.”
“Wicked” won awards for production design, and best makeup and hair styling went to “material” for the creation of beauty and the horror of the body.
“In the Shadow of Cypress” Oscar wins the best animated short film

Iranian filmmakers Shirin Sohani and Hossein Moreimi won their first Academy Award for “In the Shiples of the Cypress.” This was the second Iranian animated or live action short film nominated for an Oscar, and won first. Animation is often considered childlike, fun and creative, but can also elicit deep emotions. “In the Shadow of Cypress” takes a creative and artistic approach to the relationship between an old former captain and his daughter who deals with PTSD.
Short also won the best animated short at the Los Angeles Shorts International Film Festival.
“Flow” will be the first Latvian film to win an Academy Award for its animation feature
The word “Flow,” the parable of the cat won an Oscar for the animation feature at the 97th Academy Awards on Sunday. The victory gave Latvian filmmaker Gilvarodis his first Academy Award, marking a surprising victory over DreamWorks Animations’ “Wild Robot.”
“Flow” was created with Blender, a free, open source graphics software tool, using computer-generated animations. The result is a dreamy aesthetic combined with a peaceful yet apocalyptic f-tale about black cats, dogs, capybara, ring-tailed lemurs, and bird birds trying to overcome a catastrophic flood. There is no dialogue in the film, and the viewers are forced to be fascinated by the unlikely relationships and understandings between species trying to escape from the rising sea.
Kieran Culkin wins the best supporting actors and completes the sweep

Kieran Culkin won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Actors supporting Sunday at the 97th Academy Awards, completing a category sweeps following his advantage at the TV awards last season.
Culkin beat “Brutalist” candidates Guy Pierce, Edward Norton, Edward Norton for “The Complete Unknown,” Yura Borisov of “Anora,” and his fellow “Succession” alumni Jeremy Strong. It was one of the few categories with clear favourites ahead of this year’s ceremony, after Culkin won Golden Globe, BAFTA, BAFTA, SAG Award, SAG Award and Critic Award earlier this month.
