The Riverside Police Department is asking the mother of a baby who was abandoned next to a trash can on Sunday to move forward.
The boy was found to be “crying in a trash can enclosure in an apartment in the 3800 block of Jackson Street,” and investigators believe he was born several hours ago.
“When officers arrived they found a born boy lying next to a trash can, breathing and crying. “The paramedics quickly provided care and transported him across the street to a local hospital. He is currently in healthy and stable condition.”
Investigators are looking for the mother of the child or someone who placed him near the trash can. They ask people who have recently become pregnant but are now knowledgeable about women whose newborns reach out.
“Our main concern is finding mothers, ensuring their health and safety, and getting the medical care and support they need,” they said.

Authorities also provided reminders to others who may be in a similar situation. Safely surrendered baby law allows parents and legal guardians to abandon their babies without question.
In Riverside County, newborns can be taken to almost any fire station or hospital.
