The 31-year-old Orange County-based gang member has been arrested in connection with a fatal stab wound on a teenage girl.

According to a media release from the Costa Mesa Police Station, the stab occurred in the 700 block of Shalimar Drive, Costa Mesa, around 12:30pm on Saturday. The address from the police is a residential area outside Pomona Avenue in the downtown area of the city.

The first responder arrived in the area and found a young girl on the ground with a stab wound that was described as “life-threatening.”

“Officers and paramedics began life-saving efforts, including CPR, and quickly transported the victim to a nearby hospital. She passed away several hours later as a result of her injuries,” said CMPD’s release. “The victim’s name has been withheld due to her age and nature of the investigation.”

An investigation into the fatal case was quickly launched, and detectives decided it was gang-related. The suspect, 31-year-old Matthew Juarez, was eventually arrested on the same day of his stab wound, located in his Anaheim residence.

Authorities did not say whether there was any relationship or connection between Juarez and the teenage victim, or anyone she knows.
