The American teenage group worked very hard at the 2025 Cadet Pan AM Oceania Championship, finishing among top competitors, with some of the best performers from SOCAL.
Top U17 athletes across the United States went to Lima, Peru, where they competed with athletes from 15 other countries in the US and Oceania in the tournament.
Spanning 16 weight classes (8 men and 8 women), Team USA cadets brought home a total of 10 medals, including two gold.
One of the winners of the gold medal was Kantauyama, a native of Burbank, who competes in the +90 kg weight class and trains in Boyle Heights Latinli Judo.

Ueyama took part in the second Prime Minister Pan AM-Oceania Championship and two silver medalists, and as the second-place rival in the world due to his weight class, according to USA Judo. He was the only point tallied in the final against Canada’s Frank David Musima Ewane Eruti, where he managed to win gold in Ippon (instant victory) over Argentina Edgar Molina and Yuko (quarterpoints) in the semi-finals.
The gold medal in the weight class was Amaris Bell of Pembroke Pines, Florida, who competed in the 44kg class.
Southern California also had San Gabriel Native Maria Manibog, or cadet silver medalists, who competed in the 48 kg weight class. American Judo said.

The 10 medals won by Team USA cadets were enough to place third in the AM-Oceania Championship for the cadets behind Brazil and Canada.
But that doesn’t stop as Team USA’s junior also finished with 10 medals. The cadets in this contest were born between 2008 and 2010, while IJF Junior was born between 2005 and 2010, and juniors were two less weight classes.

And yes, the native of Socal was also in Jacob Yang: Jacob Yang of Los Angeles.
Yang, who competes with the national resident team of US Judo and trains trains at the Laso Club in Arlington Heights, won silver and bronze in the men’s 66kg category. It was his third consecutive bronze victory. According to USA Judo, he was Cadet’s world champion at last year’s event.

Manibog also won a bronze medal in his junior division debut in the 48 kg weight class.
Another California native, Los Gatos Olexandre Kniznik, won a silver medal in the 90kg category for the junior.
