Los Angeles police arrested a man suspected of setting fire to several vehicles and structures in the San Fernando Valley earlier this year.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the arson occurred on the night of October 20th in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood.

Police said several vehicles, trash cans and utility buildings were set on fire along Ventura Boulevard and Kester Avenue.

The Los Angeles Fire Department extinguished the fire and immediately determined it was arson.

This map created by the Los Angeles Police Department shows where several fires were intentionally started on October 20, 2024.

An investigation was initiated by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, which ultimately identified Ricardo Villanueva, 42, of Van Nuys, as the suspect.

A wanted flyer with Villanueva’s photo and description was distributed to law enforcement, which led to his arrest during an unrelated traffic stop in Van Nuys on Thursday.

Villanueva was taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of arson in October. He is currently being held at the Valley Jail in Van Nuys on $230,000 bail.

Villanueva’s arrest came on the same day that several cars and buildings were set on fire in the Van Nuys and Sherman Oaks areas. Officials have not said whether the fires are related.

In November, several Sherman Oaks residents expressed concern that their neighborhood was being targeted by a serial arsonist.
