The child reportedly was bitten by a mountain lion on Sunday in Malibu’s home, officials confirmed with KTLA.

Details are limited and it is unclear how the horrifying wildlife encounter occurred, but officials at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lost Hills Station said deputies responded to the 32,500 block of the Pacific Coast Highway in reporting the incident after 5:30pm.

At this time, the child’s age or gender is unknown, but authorities said the minor suffered a bite in the arm and the mountain lion was still at the facility about 15 minutes after the attack.

Los Angeles County Fire Station crews also responded to the scene and remained until at least 7pm.

It is unclear what the young victim is in now, but firefighters said the department hadn’t taken them to the hospital, but the family said they may have rushed the child to a trauma centre for treatment.

Experienced hiker Courtney Lasla told KTLA that she knew she would run but instead maintained eye contact with the mountain lion, eventually yelling loudly before running behind the nearby bushes.

“I was very grateful when I ran up the hill,” she said.

Regarding the incident in Malibu, there is information suggesting that authorities are still capturing the mountain lion.

This developing story will be updated as additional details become available.
