Investigators with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation are investigating the death of a 51-year-old man as murder, officials said Monday.
He was jailed in Mule Creek State Jail in Aeon, Longeno Jones, which was recently transferred from Los Angeles County to the facility in 2007, but was found to be unresponsive in his cell on May 21 at 5:15pm.
According to release, prison staff quickly began life-saving measures against Jones, running through him into the triage and treatment area of the facility, which was declared dead by paramedics at 5:45pm.

Jones cellmate Jesse A. Feldin, 54, was harvested from cells and placed in a restricted home until the results of the investigation were found.
Authorities did not provide information about the cause of death at the 51-year-old, whether he had suffered a visible injury or whether there was evidence that his cellmate was involved in his death.

Jones was told possible parole for first-degree robbers as the third striker to strengthen past non-violent prison crimes and past felony convictions for serious crimes, officials said.
His cellmate, Feldin, was transferred from Alameda County to Ruhr Creek State Jail in January 2019. He is currently sentenced to 12 years in prison for rape, which involves the fear of power, violence and major bodily injury as a second striker.
The prison Investigation Services Unit and the Amador County District Attorney’s Office have undertaken an investigation into Jones’ death.
The Amador County Coroner will determine the cause of death at the age of 51.
Mule Creek State Prison opened in 1987 and is home to a minimum of 3,800 prisoners, with moderate and maximum security.
