First on FOX: The FBI has launched criminal investigations at three children’s hospitals after a commitment from Attorney General Pam Bondi to enforce federal law banning genital mutilation in women to protect children from surgery for surgeries of often irreversible sexual change.

Sources familiar with the investigation spoke to Fox News Digital on condition of anonymity said the investigation focused on providers working at Boston Children’s Hospital, Colorado Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital. Sources say these hospitals have been one of the most important providers of American minor sex change procedures over the past few years.

A few days after President Donald Trump took office, he issued an executive order directing all federal agencies to end their ability to receive “irreversible medical interventions” as a treatment for gender discomfort. Part of that effort included the Attorney General, who will issue a memorandum of understanding in a few weeks, directing Department of Justice officials to enforce 18 USC §116.

“I have notified practitioners, hospitals and clinics. In the United States, performing and attempting to perform female genital mutilation (“FGM”) on someone under the age of 18 is a felony,” Bondi’s note states. “That crime has a maximum sentence of 10 years per count. I am directing all US lawyers to investigate all suspected cases of FGM under the so-called “gender-maintaining care” or other banner, and to prosecute all FGM attacks to the fullest possible extent possible. ”

Bondy also said in a memo that the Justice Department will launch a new coalition against child amputation. He said this would partner with the state attorney general to build a lawsuit against hospitals and practitioners who violate federal or state laws that prohibit genital mutilation of women. The memo added that the Department of Justice’s Legislative Affairs Office has drafted a law that establishes the private right of conduct for children and parents with damaged healthy body parts by medical professionals through chemical and surgical amputation.

Colorado Children’s Hospital first halted medical care for transgender patients under the age of 19, responding to the president’s executive order directing hospitals to halt irreversible transgender treatment for minors. However, after the judge’s ruling blocked Trump’s order, the hospital announced it would resume offering adolescent blockers and hormone-based treatments to minors.

In a statement from Fox News Digital, a spokesman for Children’s Hospital in Colorado said it had never “never” offered transgender surgeries to people under the age of 18, and two years ago the hospital stopped offering these surgeries to patients over the age of 18.

Boston Children’s Hospital continues to run the Multi-Gender Services (GEMS) program, according to public information. The hospital offers gender change surgery only for patients age 18 and older, but its GEMS program offers transgender hormone therapy, adolescent blockers and social transitions to patients under the age of 18. It also provides information on gender transition surgery to minors.

In a statement from Fox News Digital, Boston children said they have not yet received notification from the FBI regarding alleged violations of federal law. The FBI said it would “refuse to confirm or comment on the investigation” as a policy issue.
