Well, we all knew it was coming. The Tesla Diner and the drive-in in Hollywood will open today (UGH) at 4:20pm today, after allowing several years of construction and delays. According to the Tesla app, which is not a Tesla-centric blog, the Texas-based electric car company held its first responder preview event over the weekend, with several Optimus units roaming the scene. (It’s unclear if the diners will actually employ this Tesla robot as a server.) Ah, we’re living in 2025!

Elon Musk’s PET project was first announced to the public in 2022, before South Africa-born high-tech billionaires began dabbing in politics and destroyed several federal agencies through government efficiency. (More recently, he started his own party with the hopeful Andrew Yang of a former Democratic president.) Now the now manageable Tesla Diner went for a while without a culinary lead before Ghost Kitchen chef Eric Greenspan was hired to oversee the menu earlier this year. Veteran restaurateur Bill Chait (Bestia, Vespertine, Destroyer, among others) is also involved, according to a report by the New York Times. The project also sparked local backlash when Margarita and Walter Manske, co-owners of LA’s award-winning Republique, supported the support of the diner.

As previously reported, the new Tesla Diner reportedly features an 80 V4 charger, the fastest charging station available on the market, and a drive-in movie theater with a 45-foot screen. The property has 80 chargers (almost none in the auxiliary parking lot), but there are only 35 vehicle chargers near the movie screen. The entire structure has a retro physical atmosphere, with plenty of curved lines and metallic accents. Speaking directly to Eater Matthew Kang this afternoon, Chait said Tesla’s chief designer, Franz von Holzhausen, oversaw the design of the building and oversees almost every aspect of the customer experience.

Tech Blog For each TechEblog photo, the indoor dining area has curved counters and neon lighting. The rooftop dining area visible from the street is open to anyone who wants to leave their car for food. Instead of the Tesla app, Tesla owners report that they can order food directly from the car via their own app and stream what the movie is playing on the screen inside the car.

When it comes to food, expect traditional fast food prices courtesy of Greenspan, who runs New School American, a boutique cheese company supported by Chi Spacca’s Nancy Silverton. The menu includes burgers, fries, chicken wings, hot dogs, milkshakes and other handhelds. Early images reveal a range of Tesla memorabilia items over the years, in addition to cybertruck-shaped burger containers, as well as products exclusively for diners. Highlights include the Optimus robot action figure with a small container of fries.

Despite the political lightning that is musk, the media quickly ruled out the latest Tesla Diner update. Yesterday, Forbes contributor Brooke Crothers filmed footage of Tesla’s parking lot on Sunday, July 20th. This includes approximately 75 V4 chargers in another backlot.

Tesla Diner is located at 7001 Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles, California and is reportedly open 24 hours a day.
