The suspect was arrested Wednesday night after leading police in a stolen van and high speed pursuit in Santa Monica.
The male driver, identified as Alex Vilgas, 21, of Santa Monica, drove recklessly and sometimes traveled the other side of the road, but was narrowly missing pedestrians, bicycles and other vehicles.
He ran through the red light, collided with the SUV at one point before continuing to speed up. He crashes into a second car, eventually abandoning the work van near Colorado Avenue and Main Street and fleeing on foot.

Vilga ran towards the Santa Monica pier as a surprised bystander watched. He eventually lay down and surrendered to an officer near the pier sign.
He was arrested for stolen vehicle, two counts of hit and run, and for avoiding a felony.
The pursuit began in Simi Valley before the suspect struck 118 highways and then slammed the 405 highway and moved to the Santa Monica area.
The work van was initially stolen near Tapo Canyon Road and Alamo Avenue in Simi Valley. Police confirmed that the van was later returned to its registered owner.
