On Dec. 11, thieves disguised as delivery workers stole 41 boxes of merchandise from a Planet Beauty warehouse in Costa Mesa, according to employees.
Warehouse manager Oscar Hernandez said the estimated retail value of the stolen items was about $80,000.
Surveillance camera footage captured the thefts, which occurred within minutes of each other Wednesday, in broad daylight and in close proximity to employees who were unaware of what was happening.
“Tall guys with tattoos on their left arms, what else can you say?” Hernandez told KTLA’s Chris Wolf. “They were brave.”
The footage shows a man hurriedly packing boxes of luxury goods into a white van with a CarMax license plate.
The suspect has not yet been identified. In addition to being caught on camera, Hernandez said it took physical strength to move the heavy boxes easily and quickly.
Victims said the attackers were able to make several trips back and forth, but were eventually spotted and chased away.
Hernandez said he hopes his company’s losses serve as a wake-up call for other businesses, especially those that are busy selling and shipping all kinds of goods for the holidays at this time of year. .
“Be careful outside,” Hernandez warns.
The company is currently distributing flyers and asking the public to cooperate in providing information about the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Costa Mesa Police.
