USC temporarily closed parts of the campus after “dangerous goods” were discovered on Friday. Some media reports show that the dangerous item is a military maneuver.
However, the item was later deemed “inert,” school officials said.
The school confirmed Friday just after 1pm that “among a wealth of caution, LAPD will assess hazardous materials found in garage storage areas, whilst access to UPC’s Downey Way parking structures will be temporarily restricted.”
Los Angeles police said they responded to the 3600 block of McClintock Avenue at around 12:35 “for suspicious items.” That address corresponds to a parking garage.
Media reports show that schools and police officers have not confirmed it yet, but items have been found to be hand-held bullets.
Shortly after 2:30pm, the school was posted on social media that access to the parking lot was “completely restored.”
“LAPD has determined that the suspected dangerous material is inert,” the school added.
In another hand-ren bullet-related incident, three Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were killed last month by hand-ren bullets they thought were inert.
Lewis Zuniga contributed to this report.
